Dr. Joanna has served as the Zoo and Aquarium Radiology Database manager since January 2023. She was first introduced to the Brookfield Zoo Chicago team during her zoological medicine residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After completing her residency and becoming a Board Certified Zoological Medicine Specialist with the American College of Zoological Medicine, Dr. Joanna joined the team at Brookfield to coordinate the design, build, and implementation of the ZARD, a multi-faceted position that provides an opportunity to contribute to the global conservation and health of species. As the ZARD transitioned from the design-build stage to the growth-maintenance stage, Dr. Joanna realized her enthusiasm for diagnostic imaging of zoological species deserves extra attention in the form of an additional board certification. She will begin a residency in diagnostic imaging at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the summer of 2026 with a goal of continued contribution to the care and conservation of zoo, aquarium, wildlife, and companion zoo species.
