A Spectacular Night of Lanterns Aglow

The Glow Wild lantern festival transforms the night into a glowing celebration of art, culture, and conservation. Wander illuminated pathways surrounded by handcrafted lanterns inspired by wildlife global traditions and mythical worlds.

This breathtaking outdoor experience is perfect for families couples and anyone who loves immersive nighttime events. Every ticket comes with free parking and free rides on the carousel and Ferris wheel.

Please purchase tickets in advance of this event.

Glow Wild is a special after-hours event and requires a separate event ticket for admission. Please note that General Admission Guest Passes, Museums for All, Museum Passports, Museum Works, and Museum Adventures passes cannot be used for entry to Glow Wild, but they remain valid for regular daytime general admission.

Javanese Gamelan Music

  • Community Partner: Friends of the Gamelan

  • About: Friends of the Gamelan includes two ensembles with individually distinct sets of gamelan instruments, each respectively dedicated to Javanese and Balinese gamelan music and dance. Tonight, will feature the Javanese music ensemble, sharing traditional gamelan music from Central Java, Indonesia with Brookfield Zoo Chicago audiences. The meditative, chiming, and interlocking sounds you will hear are produced by bronze gongs, metallophones (saron, gender), drums (kendhang), and stringed instruments.

The program features ragas and rhythm, bharatanatyam alongside Flamenco, percussive footwork and original works.

  • About: Huehuecoyotl means Ancient Coyote in Nahuatl, an indigenous language spoken in Mexico. Danza Azteca is an ancient tradition and inheritance of the descendants of Mesoamerica's first peoples. This prayer in motion helps people live a more balanced life - physically, mentally and emotionally.

  • About: Lanterns, like those found throughout Glow Wild, are symbolic across many cultures and world beliefs. Welcome to all, the CMGT inspires respect for all living things and seeks a balance with nature. Tonight, they will share how lanterns signify Eid for Muslims, integrating Arab, Asian, and Pakistani cultural perspectives and experiences. Learn some of the creative ways to upcycle and repurpose items and get involved in your communities.

  • Community Partner: Center of Peruvian Arts

  • About: Join us on a cultural journey from the Peruvian Amazon to the Andean highlands. The Anaconda Dance, inspired by the traditions of Amazonian Indigenous communities, and The Llameritos de Cantería from Puno, a festive Andean dance portraying the life of highland shepherds and their ancestral relationship with llamas, showcase the contrast between Amazonian spirituality and Andean joy and highlight Peru’s rich cultural diversity and traditional folklore.

Glow Wild FAQs

Will the Zoo be open during the day?

Yes, the Zoo will be open for the normal 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. time and then will close to reopen for Glow Wild. Event will proceed rain, snow, or shine. All sales are final, and there are no refunds or exchanges.

Where can I park?

Parking will be at the Main Entrance Parking lot only. The South Gate Parking lot will NOT be open for Glow Wild.

If I come to the Zoo during the day, can I stay for Glow Wild at night?

No, the Zoo will close at 4p.m. and all guests will have to exit before we open again at 6 p.m.

What restrooms will be available for guests to use?

North Gate, South Gate, Pavilions, and the BZ Red Hots restrooms will be open.

Will any animal buildings be open?

During these special evenings, all animal habitats will be closed to ensure the comfort and well-being of our animals.

Will the Ferris Wheel and Carousel be open?

Yes! The Ferris Wheel and Carousel are FREE during Glow Wild. Guests can ride them multiple times.
