Saving Species

Conservation Programs
Along with our global partners, we use research and science-based actions to support species in danger. From coastal Peru to the Arctic, we turn knowledge into real-world results.

Saving Animals from Extinction
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) created the Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) program to protect some of the world’s most threatened species. Saving animals from extinction means helping species survive and protecting the habitats they need to live.

Conservation Collaborations
Brookfield Zoo Chicago teams up with trusted conservation partners worldwide to protect wildlife for future generations. By working with other groups, we can improve our conservation efforts, reach more people, and support research.

Species Survival Plans
Species Survival Plans are strategic blueprints designed to save the world’s most at-risk animals. By using smart science and partnering with other zoos, we make sure no species disappears on our watch.

Repopulation and Reintroduction Programs
When species become highly endangered in the wild, zoos can step in to help keep the population from becoming extinct. Brookfield Zoo Chicago works to save species and help build their populations in the wild.

Animal Rescue
When animals cannot survive on their own in the wild, a nationwide network of wildlife agencies, rescue organizations, rehabilitation centers, and accredited zoos step in to help.

Local Conservation Initiatives
For more than 90 years, Brookfield Zoo Chicago has been a pillar of Chicago’s west suburban community. Our strong relationships with local organizations are bolstered by our shared goals of care and conservation.
